Today’s Notable 3some in Toronto: May 26, 2014

The taste of South America, an excuse to revisit the big hair, bad clothing, and heavy metal of the 80s, and putting little brother Vancouver in its place – what more could you want on a Monday? Here’s a trio of the hottest things you can do on the first day of the last week of May

Here’s a trio of the hottest things you can do on the first day of the last week of May.*

Andean Flavours
Where: King Edward Hotel, 37 King St. E
When: 5:00pm

This is what South America tastes like: avocado, olive oil, quinoa, Maca, coffee, chocolate, salsa, chai, and more. Beyond the trade show aspect, you’ll also have access to five recipes made by prestigious local chefs and a glass that’s filled with wines of Chile. This is how you experience Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, and Colombia in one night.

Steel Panther
Where: Sound Academy
When: 7:30pm

Miss the 80s? Big hair, bad clothing, and heavy metal? No problem. Thanks to Steel Panther, you can have it all – again. This heavy metal parody band often brings a stage persona and commitment to 80s lifestyle that borders on the real thing. Don’t believe us? Check out the beautiful absurdity that is this video. Tonight, Sound Academy is a time machine.

Japadog Night
Where: Hapa Izakaya, 602 College St
When: 7:00pm

First off, a Japadog is a hotdog with Japanese toppings such as okonomiyaki, yakisoba, teriyaki, and tonkatsu. It’s been huge in Vancouver and since you know we can’t stand when they have anything we don’t, it’s coming here tonight. There’s also an open mic featuring scheduled performances, but really this is all about getting your taste buds on the latest street food trend in the country. (And putting little brother Van in his place.)

*Of course, no one would blame you for staying in to get high on helium
