Today’s Notable 3some in Toronto: March 3, 2014

Here’s a trio of the hottest things you can do to kick off the first week of March.*

Broken Bells
Where: Danforth Music Hall
When: 7:00pm

In case you didn’t know, the lead singer of The Shins started a band with Danger Mouse. No, you haven’t died and gone to Indie heaven – but you could be in it tonight at The Danforth Music Hall when Broken Bells takes the stage. Their second studio album was just released last month and they’ve kicked off their current tour to rave reviews. Sounds like a great way to hold onto life.

Generosity
Where: The Drake Hotel
When: 8:00pm

Tonight at The Drake, you can help tackle homelessness in our city by donating anything you can that might help. The most in-demand items are: women’s, men’s, and children’s previously loved clothing, toiletries, and subway tokens (they help those in need get around on our less than affordable TTC). All of the proceeds will be donated to the Fred Victor multi-service organization and registered charity. There’ll also be a band and pickles (yes, pickles), but the main draw here should definitely be to help others less fortunate than yourself.

Books Into Film
Where: TIFF Bell Lightbox

When: 7:00pm

Eleanor Wachtel, host of CBC’s Writers & Company, invites filmmakers, authors, and experts to discuss the art of adaptation and what can often be a challenging passage from page to screen. The fourth season starts off tonight with author Mohsin Hamid in attendance to discuss Mira Nair’s adaptation of his novel The Reluctant Fundamentalist, which had been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2007. Yes, you get to watch the movie too.

*Of course, no one would blame you for staying in all night to practice your Oscar speech in order to make it as perfect as this one.
