Today’s Notable 3some in Toronto: April 29, 2014

Here’s a trio of the hottest things you can do on the second day of your week.*

Art Battle
Where: The Great Hall
When: 7:30pm

Art Battle is a live competitive painting event. 16 painters have just 20 minutes to create the best work they can. While they work, you’ll be allowed to move around the room and watch easel-side as they construct their canvas. Armed with brushes, palette knives, or any other non-mechanical implements (yes, fingers are okay), artists work with acrylic paint to create what we hope will be masterpieces. After the 20 minutes are up, you and your fellow audience members vote for your favourite painting. Art to the death or just a first place prize – your call.

James Blunt
Where: Danforth Music Hall
When: 7:00pm

Somehow, it’s been 10 whole years since You’re Beautiful became the greatest ode to a missed connection ever written. And James, at 40, is still around – so much so that he’s playing two shows at The Danforth to promote his 4th studio album, Moon Landing. (In case you didn’t know, a moon landing is when two men rub their naked asses against each other accidentally – say, at the gym. Yes, this is what he named his album.) We’re not sure what to expect, but if his Twitter account is any indication it should be pretty hilarious to say the least.

True Stories
Where: The Garrison
When: 7:30pm

You sit around all the time shooting the breeze with your buddies, and you know what, it’s pretty fun. Possibly even more fun? Listening to a stranger do it. True Stories is all about offering a quiet night out in the West End where you get to hear some truth (that’s probably funny, possibly heartwarming, and definitely endearing) from a few people you’ve never met. Who knows, maybe it’ll even give you the courage to get up there one day and tell everyone about that time with that guy and the you-know-what when everything went wrong with the whatcha-ma-call-it.

*Of course, you could always come out and heckle me in person.
