Today’s Notable 3some in Toronto: April 22, 2014

Here’s a trio of the hottest things you can do on the second day of your week.*

FAT
Where: Daniels Spectrum 585 Dundas St. E.
When: All Day

Starting today, Toronto’s going to be overrun by cutting-edge fashion, design and art. We’re talking runway shows, photography exhibits, art installations, theatrical performances, and fashion films all taking place under one roof. Ever wonder where big things are right before they go mainstream? It’s here, at the 9th annual Arts & Fashion Week Toronto. This is FAT – no need for the ‘ph’.

The Black Lips
Where: The Phoenix
When: 8:00pm

We think the worst (or is it the best?) of the Black Lips’ live show antics are likely behind them – one of those things that comes with growing up and actually learning how to play your instruments – but if Southern garage punk rock enhanced by deceptively thoughtful songwriting and soulful lyricism is your scene, we suspect you won’t mind that no one’s peeing on stage. Still, if their incredible energy and half decent new material can’t sell you, perhaps this will?

(Like the writing? Check out our Music in the Streets column.)

Earth Day
Where: The World
When: All freakin’ day

If you think of yourself as an environmentalist, then this is your day. Heck, if you recycle, compost, ride a bike, or just like the sunshine, get out there and celebrate Mother Earth. Usually today is more about education than anything else, but because we love you we also thought we’d point you in the direction of an Earth Day party. ‘Cause there ain’t no party like an environmental party… maybe?

*Of course, no one would blame you for staying in to consider what songs you could sing if only someone took the time to edit everything you ever said.
