Today is National Donut Day…Start Drooling

Not only is the sunshine warming our hearts today, but so are donuts.

Ladies and gents, today is National Donut Day.

Now you finally have an official (?) excuse to over-indulge in these sweet and tasty ring-shaped treats.

But before we bite into the wonderful world of sugar and dough, there’s a little history to be learned about the origins of today’s sweet, sweet celebration.

It was actually the Salvation Army that created National Doughnut Day in 1938 to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers in World War I as a way to boost morale.

It was launched by the Chicago Salvation Army to raise funds and awareness for the organization’s work, but the real heroines of the day are the women that contributed their effort during the War.

So to celebrate them and our favourite sugary treat, we wanted to share some of the most mouth-watering donuts out there to get you even hungrier. Enjoy.
