TIFF2014: About Last Night, Thursday, September 11th

It’s here: jam-packed days, sleepless nights (facilitated by the 4am last call) and Toronto in its finest form.

Of course, we’re talking about the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). And each day we are going to bring you 3 of the most notable things from the day and night before.

So, about last night…

The Party: Escobar: Paradise Lost
Usually this late in the festival, the stars have all flocked back to Hollywood. Not this year, though.

Once again, Storys was a hot spot, hosting the cast of Escobar: Paradise Lost for a pre-party before the premiere (because a cocktail or two takes the opening night edge off).

Actors Benicio Del Toro, Josh Hutcherson, Claudia Traisac, and director Andrea Di Stefano walked the Storys red carpet before drifting around the third floor space. Co-stars and real life couple Hutcherson and Traisac get the award for the cutest item at this year’s TIFF, remaining lovey dovey and attached at the hip throughout.

The Film: The Voices
After premiering in January at The Sundance Film Festival, The Voices had its Canadian premiere last night at TIFF. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Anna Kendrick (she’s a TIFF staple this year) and Gemma Arterton, and directed by Marjane Satrapi, the comedy crime thriller tells the story of a mentally ill factory worker (Reynolds) who, while off his meds, hears voices from his pets in the wake of committing a murder. His dog offers quality, good-natured advice, while the evil cat schemes ways to get away with the gruesome crime. So, in other words, you won’t sit there thinking, this has been done before

The Restaurant: Montecito
There was a new player on the TIFF culinary and party scene this year—and one that comes as no surprise, given that one of its owners is Ivan Reitman.

Conveniently located in the hub of the action, around the corner from the TIFF Lightbox, the massive space remained packed throughout the festival by both industry elite and young scenesters looking to get in on the action. And last night was definitely no exception.

And that’s a wrap for us.

Until next year, keep reaching for the stars—or at least try to get a selfie with them.
