TIFF2014: About Last Night, September 6th

It’s here: jam-packed days, sleepless nights (facilitated by the 4am last call) and Toronto in its finest form.

Of course, we are talking about the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). And each day we are going to bring you 3 of the most notable things from the day and night before.

So, about last night…

The party: Hello! Canada/Giorgio Armani
The annual Hello! Canada party went down last night at The Ritz Carlton, attracting no shortage of eager on-lookers outside of the hotel, as well as a slew of local scenesters. Perhaps the swankiest party, however, took place high above the city at the CN Tower for the Giorgio Armani cocktail party to celebrate the Films of City Frames project. It attracted names like Richard Gere, Chloë Grace Moretz, Denzel Washington, Elisha Cuthbert, Jessica Chastain, Holly Hunter, and the usual selection of Canadian talent.

The film: While We’re Young
While We’re Young had its premiere last night, followed by a Grey Goose-filled after party at Soho House. Starring Ben Stiller, Amanda Seyfried, Naomi Watts, and Adam Driver, and directed by Noah Baumbach, the film essentially documents a love story between two couples. A restless and jaded filmmaking couple (Stiller and Watts) in their 40s adopt a young hipster couple as friends in a refreshing relationship that will change their lives. It’s perhaps one of the films that will resonate most with young professionals at TIFF, centering on the professional and personal plight of characters on both ends of the YP age spectrum.

The look: Casual
Apparently the stars are going more casual for the red carpet this year. James Franco arrived on the red carpet at Ryerson Theatre rocking a black toque (he recently shaved his head and inked it with a fake tattoo for a movie role) for the premiere of the William Faulkner adaptation, The Sound and the Fury. Meanwhile, Roger Waters opted for a more casual look as well, sporting a pair of lace-less beige Converse sneakers on the carpet for the premiere of documentary Roger Waters the Wall.
