TIFF2014: About Last Night, September 3rd

It’s here: jam-packed days, sleepless nights (facilitated by the 4am last call), and Toronto in its finest form.

Of course, we’re talking about the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). And each day we’re going to bring you three of the most notable things from the day and night before.

So, about last night…

The party: Producers Ball
Hosted by the Property Brothers, Jonathan and Drew Scott, and their brother JD, the event served as a reunion for film and television industry folk. Notable names found partying alongside dinosaur bones at the ROM included Lauren Holly (as promised, in her Le Chateau collection, Lauren’s Closet), Arlene Dickinson, David Chilton, Caitlin Cronenberg, Holly Deveaux, Katie Boland, Meghan Heffern, Kardinal Offishall, Tara Spencer Nairn, Gabrielle Miller, TIFF Rising Stars Shannon Kook-Chun and Julia Sarah Stone, and Jian Ghomeshi, among others.

The film: Wet Bum
The beautiful coming-of-age story stars 16-year-old TIFF Rising Star Julia Sarah Stone in a brilliant performance as a perpetually bullied, late-blooming outcast who’s forced to work at the retirement home her mother manages. It’s there that she develops unlikely but empowering friendships that ultimately help her handle the painfully awkward and sometimes disturbing relationships with her peers. The film also marks young Canadian Lindsay Mackay‘s feature film directorial debut.

The place: EGPR’s Essentials Lounge
This is the one time during TIFF when members of the media get a little star treatment of their own. And the hot-ticket gifting suite, held in a penthouse of the Templar Hotel, was on a mission to arm media with all they need to both survive and recover from TIFF. Ladies were invited to get red carpet-ready with a SkinCeuticals Express facial, lashes or brow shaping from Winks Eyelash Boutique, makeup touchup by Tarte cosmetics, and hair by the team from Schwarzkopf. We also left with two bags filled with the items to help us tackle TIFF – and bring you the best content we can in the process. Because if there’s ever a time to work hard, play hard, and work harder, it’s during TIFF.
