TIFF 2014: The Free Gifts That Celebrities Get

It turns out that being rich and famous just isn’t enough in itself anymore.

Back for its 10th year, rock-it promotions’ The Tastemakers Lounge (#Tastemakers10), located in the InterContinental Toronto Hotel, will be gifting celebrities over the next four days.

That’s right, gift is a verb when you’re a star.

The lounge has already attracted a slew of notable local talent in its first few days and will expect some famous faces to grace its doors too.

Past guests have included Woody Harrelson, Brad Pitt, Sarah Polley, Kat Dennings, Freida Pinto, Samuel L. Jackson, Abigail Breslin, and Joshua Jackson.

So why do you care what celebrities are getting for free? ‘Cause it’s safe to say that once the stars get their hands on these items, you’ll be seeing (and probably buying) a lot more of them in the near future.

Think of this as a trend alert.

Rise Gear
For jet-setting celebrities (and young professionals, obviously), Rise Gear luggage line features bags that include a compartmentalized portable shelving system to keep your clothes folded and neatly organized. All you do is pack, expand the shelving, and hang it in a closet. Celebs will leave with the Jumper carry-on bag ($79).

Tonia DeBellis Haute Hoodie
A hood is a celebrity staple when they don’t want to be recognized. But unfortunately, not all jackets have them. That’s why Canadian designer Tonia DeBellis makes it easy with her signature Haute Hoodie ($399).

Olive and Piper Jewellery
Vancouver based Olive + Piper will gift a statement layered pendant necklace ($34) to complete a red carpet look.

Sorel Boots
Canadian winters and Sorel boots are synonymous. Celebs get their choice of Sorel boots – everything from the classics to more fall-appropriate models (perfect for the Los Angeles weather) and even ones with wedges. The boots range in price up to $280.

Danier Leather Accessories
The Canadian leather brand is showcasing their fall styles at the lounge this year. Celebs have their pick of leather accessories, including handbags, wallets, and a baseball hat (a popular choice), as well as a selection of scarves (up to $159).

Brita Hard Sided Water Bottle
Brita’s new Hard Sided Bottle filters tap water as you drink it (because carrying around a normal sized Brita filter could get awkward), offering a convenient way to keep skin glowing and camera-ready, and for the stars to hydrate between takes.

Piloti Shoes and Apparel
A new addition to Holt Renfrew, Piloti gear offers high-end racing-inspired footwear, apparel, and accessories. Male talent will take home driving shoes from the luxury collection crafted in Italy, including the Campione dress shoe ($450).

Other favourites to look out for include Counting Sheep Coffee, which claims to be the world’s first (decaf, obviously) coffee that actually improves sleep quality, and the latest scent from Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein Reveal for her ($25, 15 mL).
