This Urn Will Turn Your Loved Ones Into Trees After They Die

Here’s an idea that could very well save the planet.

Excuse us if we get a little morbid for a moment: There are too many human beings in the world. Simply put, there aren’t enough resources on our planet to sustain the unparalleled population growth of the last several decades and foreseeable future. The problem is, we can’t just “eliminate” people.

What we can do, however, is turn something we have too many of – humans – into something we need more of. Namely, trees.

Human-to-tree conversion can be realized as early as March 2017 thanks to the Bios Incube, the world’s first system designed to help grow the remains of your loved ones into perennial plants. The project is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter and consists of three parts:

Bios Urn. A biodegradable urn designed to allow the growth of a tree when planted using the cremated remains of a loved one.

Bios Incube. The Incubator that facilitates growth, and enables you to track and monitor your Bios Urn when and where you want to.

Mobile application. An application that ties everything together, seamlessly, for you to use. The app will tell you how your tree is growing, and when necessary, provide advice for maintenance.

How awesome is that? Oh, that Ficus in the corner is my uncle Norm, and the desktop Bonsai is grandma Gladys.

Ok, so maybe we exaggerated a bit about this idea saving the planet – cremation itself isn’t the greenest method of corpse combustion – but according to its creators, the Bios Incube was first and foremost designed “a sustainable alternative for remembering deceased persons or pets in a natural and contemporary way.”

And the only way to create a more contemporary afterlife would be if your loved one’s ashes arranged themselves into something from a MoMA exhibit.

So keep this in mind the next time someone you know says “I want to be remembered when I die.”
