This is What Superstar Surfer Laird Hamilton Eats Every Morning to Stay in Shape

Laird Hamilton has the body one prays to achieve when they sign up for a gym membership in January.

It’s not surprising, then, that many people want to know how the 52-year-old American surfer can maintain such an extraordinary physique. The answer? Eat three breakfasts. Yes, in one sitting.

Ok, so they’re not full breakfasts, but each “meal” is different and functional enough as its own dietary entity to break the fast.

Hamilton recently wrote a short column in Men’s Journal expressing how people skipping breakfast blows his mind before outlining the three-part fuel-up he undergoes every morning starting at 5am.

Here’s what that looks like:

Meal 1: Supercharged Coffee
1 cup hot coffee
1 tbsp grass-fed butter
1 tsp coconut oil
1 tsp MCT oil
1 tsp red palm oil

Meal 2: Lots of Protein
“Within an hour after I train, I make a recovery meal. I match what I eat to how hard I went in the gym. If it was an intense day, that may mean basted eggs, bacon, and quinoa oatmeal. Lighter days, it will be yogurt with almond butter, honey, and cinnamon.”

Meal 3: Energy-Boosting Juice
½ cup turmeric juice
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
2 tsp honey
4 drops pepper extract
2¼ cups water

And there you have it. Enough energy to sustain a kindergarten class for one man all before most of us even make it to work and think, “Hey, I should probably eat something.”
