When it comes to the (zombie) apocalypse, everyone knows it’s going to be survival of the fittest.
What you might not realize though, is that while you consider watching The Walking Dead a form of learning, there are people out there already making moves in the real world.
That’s right, the end times – just like the current times – will also favour the ridiculously rich.
And they won’t just be surviving, they’ll be thriving.
That’s because this bunker for billionaires will offer the kind of luxury most of us can only dream of calling home, apocalypse or not.
Designed by underground-shelter company Vivos, The Vivos Europa One shelter in Rothenstein, Germany, will apparently be the the world’s largest and safest underground survival bunker in the event of a global catastrophe once it’s completed. One thing’s for sure; it’s definitely the most lavish.
If you’re the lucky few who receive an invite and have an extra $5 million collecting dust, the bunker will protect against everything from natural disasters to war, all while offering the 5-star experience of a luxury hotel. A far cry from a “hole in the ground,” the recently revealed Vivas Europa One is complete with a lounger-filled pool, an underground bar, offices, a personal train depot, and upgrades for individual units that include home theatres and gyms.
Located deep below a limestone mountain, the 76-acre property was originally built by Soviets during the Cold War and used as a fortress for military equipment and munitions. According to Business Insider, Vivos founder and CEO Robert Vicino says that the chance to buy real estate in the Europa One bunker will be marketed exclusively to “global industrialists and billionaires,” and calls the purchase “an investment in your life and in real estate.”

Naturally, the bunker has all the basics covered. Inside the walls of the shelter – which contains more than 16,400 feet of continuous tunnel chambers – are two customized climate and ventilation systems and a self-contained water and power-generation system that enables independent support without any reliance on the outside world. The corridors and common spaces are sleek and sophisticated in all of their futuristic glory.

As for the individual chambers, they can be customized to meet the needs and wants of the future inhabitants and their families. Each private 2,500-square-foot chamber can house two-story living quarters, and can be designed to include improvements like pools, theatres, gyms, kitchens, bars, bedrooms, and deluxe bathrooms. Picture the compact but fancy features of a mega luxury-yacht – so the future inhabitants will feel right at home, even if their household yacht is swept away in the event of a disaster.

The shelter is complete with blast doors and protective corridors and is protected 24/7 by security guards and surrounding gates. Guests will only be allowed to enter via a Vivos helicopter. The space will also house medical facilities for emergencies.
Armed against all kinds of future disasters, the Europa One is built to withstand nuclear blasts, biological and chemical agents, earthquakes, direct plane crashes, and any armed attacks. You know, all those “fun” future possibilities most of us would rather ignore.
Though the Europa One is surely designed for the “one per cent,” the company also constructs underground shelters for those on a slightly tighter budget (but the general population will probably still have to rely on their innate survival skills).
Good luck.
