This is How Much Instagram’s Top Models are Getting Paid Per Post

The next time you see a picture of Kendall Jenner on Instagram (and let’s face it, that won’t be too far away) you might think of a three-bedroom house. Alternatively, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star may bring to mind BMW’s latest sports car. Or perhaps you’ll see 30 Hermes Birkin handbags dancing in front of your very eyes.

Because these are all things that the top Instagram model could purchase with just a single picture uploaded to her social media.

That’s right folks, Ms. Jenner earns as much as $300k (USD) for one measly post across her portfolio.

Gobsmacked? We were too. While it’s no secret that bloggers and celebrities are making huge stacks of cash through social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, what’s fascinating is how it’s actually becoming something of a science.

The D’Marie Archive is the first analytics group to compile an accurate estimate about how much the social media elite are making per post. And judging by these figures, I’m sure they won’t be the last to catch on to this developing trend.

The group introduced an app and platform to guide agencies through the valuation of the social power of models and influencers. By using an algorithm that considers 56 metrics, including frequency of posts, engagement rate and clickthrough, they are able to assist brands in determining how much a post could be worth.

According to Workopolis, Canadians are earning, on average, just over $49,000 a year. So if we equate that to US dollars ($35,135), a top post by a celebrity social media queen could be bringing them in eight and a half times our annual salary.

Models have always been paid to look beautiful, but what’s interesting is how over time we’ve become as much engrossed in their personal lives as we have their physical image. While a picture of Kendall and her heart-shaped hair design may have topped the list of most popular Instagram posts of the year, Taylor Swift photographed with her cat in her New York apartment made it into the top ten, as did Selena Gomez wearing a very comfy looking shirt in her car.

Yes, they’re undeniably glamorous even when they can’t be bothered to get out of bed before snapping a selfie, and irrelevant of how laid-back their look is. But we certainly seem to be much less interested in seeing our models walking down the catwalk, than we are in seeing them going about their daily lives and domestic chores.

And while Linda Evangelista may have hinted in her infamous Vogue interview that she and her fellow models wouldn’t get out of bed for less than $10k, it seems that the beautiful people of today probably won’t bother to get up at all – and they’ll still end up raking in six-digit figures for it.

Here are the most highly ranked supermodels on social, according to the D’Marie Archive:

Top tier ($300-$125k)
1. Kendall Jenner
2. Cara Delevigne
3. Gigi Hadid

Next tier ($50-$25k)
4. Karlie Kloss
5. Behati Prinsloo
6. Miranda Kerr
