This Guy is Turning Thrift Store Paintings Into Amazing Pop Culture Art

Let’s be honest: most thrift store art is essentially the before photo of a Bob Ross landscape – without the novelty of having been created by the legend painter himself.

That is to say, it would not occupy space anywhere within your scope of vision.

One man, however, has breathed new life into otherwise forgettable art by injecting it with pop culture characters like Darth Vader or Sonic the Hedgehog. Or Mario Kart characters. Or the sharks of Sharknado.

‘Cause if there’s one thing that can spruce up a dull, dewy meadow, it’s a devious Michelin man.

What’s great is that Dave Pollot isn’t even an artist, really; just a software engineer who spends his nights with a beer in one hand and paintbrush in the other, according to his Instagram profile.

“I try to make my ‘additions’, which are often references to and parodies of my favourite movies and video games, look as though they were there the entire time,” says Pollot with refreshing aversion to the existential jargon that usually accompanies simple artwork for which it is not necessary.

Pollot’s work can be purchased on Etsy – the perfect gift for anyone who had a childhood.
