Welcome to the era of visual search. Because typing text into Google was so early 2015…
You may already be familiar with Blippar, the image recognition and augmented reality app that has until now offered its functionality mainly to bring branded content to life.
The most recent news from CEO and founder Ambarish Mitra suggests Blippar will soon launch a new version that focuses on non-branded visual search – i.e. you’ll be able to take pictures of literally everything, from fruit at the supermarket to pets, and the app will generate a heap of information to satisfy any and all of your curiosities.
Taking a picture of a puppy, for example, will generate info about its history, genealogy, care tips, and nearby vet, dog walking, and sitting services.
No word yet on what it’ll return for a selfie.
The technology is available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone, and works in conjunction with both Google and Bing to yield personalized results for each user using highly developed deep learning and artificial intelligence.
You can get your hands on the Blippar visual search update in April.
