These Were the Most In-Demand Jobs in Canada in 2015

A job is a great thing to have.

Problem is, the market in which they exist can be unpredictably turbulent and subject to sudden shifts in trends. As much as we’re all about encouraging millennials to pursue their passion, there’s a degree of logic that needs to be considered when it comes to one’s career.

Which is why it’s always a good strategy to be on top of what jobs are in demand.

A recent survey conducted by Workopolis looked at job postings from coast to coast to paint a picture of which industries are doing most of the hiring – and the firing.

Turns out 2015 was a great year for processing, manufacturing, utilities, natural resources, and agriculture. And not much else.

Those particular industries grew by 4.7 per cent, while everything else dropped. Some industries – including health, education, arts, recreation, and law – saw job openings drop by over 30 per cent compared to last year.

A sliver of good news from the findings is that entry-level jobs doubled this year, including positions like cashiers, caregivers, sales reps, kitchen work, and drivers.

The bad news is that our economy performed pretty abysmally otherwise.
