15 Films We Can’t Wait to See This Spring and Summer

Spring movies are often a bit dry following awards season.

But this spring the choices are surprisingly impressive, with a summer movie lineup following in hot pursuit. This season features plenty of sequels as well as a host of comedies and a few originals thrown into the mix.

Mother’s Day
Release Date: April 29th
This star-studded feel-good brings together Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Julia Roberts, and Jason Sudeikis and tells the story of three generations of mothers. Take your mom to see this and you’ll definitely score some brownie points.

Captain America: Civil War

Political interference in the Avengers’ activities causes a serious rift between former allies Captain America and Iron Man. Marvel fans will appreciate Spiderman’s surprise cameo — leading us to believe that there could be another Spiderman installment coming soon.

Money Monster

George Clooney and Julia Roberts co-star in this thriller that follows financial TV host Lee Gates (Clooney) and his producer Patty (Roberts) when they’re put in an explosive situation when an irate investor (Jack O’Connell) takes over their television studio.

The Nice Guys
Release Dates: May 20th
Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe have an incredible chemistry in this comedy that follows a down-on-his-luck private eye (Gosling) and a temperamental hired enforcer (Crowe) and they must work together to investigate the apparent suicide of a fading porn star in 1970s Los Angeles and uncover a conspiracy.

X-Men: Apocalypse

Upon awakening after thousands of years, Apocalypse becomes the most powerful and destructive mutant in the X-Men universe. The X-Men must unite to defeat their greatest nemesis and stop him before he destroys mankind.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

Andy Samberg is back to the big screen in all of his ridiculous glory. The film follows international singing and rapping sensation Conner4real as he faces a long downhill slide when his sophomore album flops and he is faced with no longer being the “dopest” star in the world.

Finding Dory

Pixar’s long-awaited sequel to Finding Nemo follows forgetful surgeonfish Dory, who is played by Ellen DeGeneres, as she sets off on a journey to find her family joined by pals Nemo and Marlin.

Free State of Jones
Release Date: June 24th
In Jones County, Mississippi, Newt Knight (Matthew McConaughey) joins forces with other farmers and a group of slaves to lead a rebellion against the Confederacy as the Civil War divides the nation.

Ghostbusters
Release Date:
July 15th
Remakes are often a bad idea, but this adaptation will feature a female squad that includes top comedians like Kristin Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon. Original cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Sigourney Weaver will perfect the movie by making numerous cameos.

Star Trek Beyond
Release Date: July 22nd
Stranded on a remote and hostile planet, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and the rest of the Enterprise crew are being attacked by an unstoppable group of aliens, leaving the crew stranded and forced to take on the ruthless enemy.

Jason Bourne

Damon is back for the fourth installment of the Bourne franchise and he’s looking particularly buff in the recently released trailer. Bourne is called into action and is drawn out of the shadows.

Suicide Squad

This adaptation reintroduces DC villains to the screen, most notably Jared Leto as The Joker and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Also on board are Will Smith, Cara Delevingne, Scott Eastwood, and Joel Kinnaman.

Sausage Party

This is the what animated dreams are made of. Starring Kristen Wiig, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, and Edward Norton, the film follows a sausage who leads a group of supermarket products on a journey to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they leave the grocery store.

War Dogs

This is a true story of two young men, David Packouz (Miles Teller) and Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill), who won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon to arm America’s allies in Afghanistan after making a significantly lower bid than competitors during the Iraq war.

Mechanic: Resurrection

Arthur Bishop (Jason Stratham) is back to get revenge after his biggest rival kidnaps the love of his life and he’s forced to travel the globe to complete three impossible assassinations while making them look like accidents.
