These are the Best Cities in the World For Ex-Pats to Work

If your current city has lost its lustre and you’re day dreaming about moving away, you may want to consider the results of a recent survey.

Consulting firm Mercer just released the results from its 18th annual study of foreign workers’ lifestyle. The study evaluated the quality of living conditions in 440 cities to assist multinational companies and other employers adequately and fairy compensate employees while assigning them to international projects.

The living conditions are assessed according to 39 factors and grouped into 10 categories, including standards of safety, health, schools, recreation, consumer goods, environment, and public services (all the important things).

When it comes to quality of living, Vienna takes the top spot – and not for the first time, either. The Austrian capital has topped the list for the seventh year in a row, beating out major global cities like London, Paris, New York, and Dubai, none of which even made the top 20.

The countries that did make the list include Zurich, Switzerland, which took second place, Auckland, New Zealand, which came in third place, and Munich, Germany, which came in fourth.

The fifth position goes to our very own Vancouver, which should come as no surprise to anyone who’s ever been there (and if you haven’t, here’s everything you need to know). Asia’s highest-ranking city was Singapore, placing 26th, while Dubai was the top-ranking Middle Eastern city, coming in at 75. As for Africa, only two destinations – Cape Town (92) and Johannesburg (95) – made the cut. When it comes to our friends south of the border, San Francisco was the top-ranking city in the U.S. (28), followed by Boston (34), Honolulu (35), Chicago (43), and New York (45).

And now that you know all of this, you only need the job offer…
