These Are the 20 Most Beautiful Countries in the World

We’re now entering the depth of the winter blues. That means your mind is on two things: When will they legalize edibles, and how and where to get the hell out of here.

Canadians recently offered some recommendations for the later. It was bad.

Luckily, London-based travel book publisher Rough Guides recently asked its readers to vote for the most beautiful country in the world. Before we get to the goods, you’re probably wondering we ranked.

Canada finished runner-up to Scotland as the “home of lumberjacks, beavers and maple syrup,” praised for its “mixture of raw beauty and majestic landscapes.” It doesn’t really get any more cliche – or true – than that.

“The Yukon Territory is a place of great wilderness, while B.C. mountains draw skiers and snowboarders in their thousands. The turquoise colours of Lake Louise are an instagrammer’s delight, while the East Coast cities of Toronto and Montreal charm with their great restaurants and cosmopolitan atmosphere,” says Rough Guides about Canada.

Ok, so nothing that anyone literally anywhere doesn’t know already. But you’re not here to learn about Canada, so let’s move on. In third place is mesmerizingly beautiful New Zealand, followed by Italy in the four spot and South Africa to round out the top five.

Here’s the full list:

1. Scotland
