There’s a Very Good Chance Your Tinder Match Isn’t Even Single

There are a lot of concerns that swirl one’s mind before meeting a Tinder match offline. 

How does this person look outside their most attractive 1 per cent of profile photos? Can they say anything clever without spending 10 minutes to craft the perfect line? WILL I WAKE UP TO SEE TOMORROW?!

According the new research, it would also be wise to wonder about your new crush’s relationship status. Or marriage status, for that matter. 

The data reveals that 30 per cent of Tinder users are already hitched, and almost half aren’t even single.

Oh, but it’s just a “social discovery app,” they’ll tell you. Or perhaps they’re off the rails on a gateway drug of which the final destination Ashley Madison, as TIME quite observantly notes

A very real possibility is that many couples are using Tinder merely as a recreational game – admittedly, it’s a more interesting way to liven up a subway ride than Candy Crush. 

The fact that only about 50 per cent of Tinder users are eligible – polyamorous lifestyles aside – means that those who are actually looking for meaningful connections are swiping right on and matching a considerable amount of dead-end prospects. 

Perhaps Tinder is dead…
