The Social Group is Seriously Serving Up Toronto

The Hoxton, Dog and Bear and Parts and Labour – they’re some of our favourite Toronto spots for everything from a wild night out with your favourite DJ (Hoxton) to brunch and Premier League football matches (Dog and Bear) and a more chill, food and booze-filled night with friends (Parts and Labour). They are all owned by The Social Group, who have made their mark on the Toronto scene for most of our young professional (YP) lives, beginning with Queen West’s The Social and Vintage 69 back in the day.

Perhaps what YPs are less familiar with is The Social Group’s unforgettably delicious P&L Catering menu and the fact that the beloved Hoxton can be transformed from wild, beat-pumping nightclub to an elegant wedding venue or upscale corporate function. With engagement announcements dominating our social media news feeds, The Social Group is definitely on our radar.

Here is why you should consider The Social Group when planning your next Toronto event…

P&L’s Catering menu is seriously addictive.
We have never left a party that featured passed food (as opposed to a sit down diner) so incredibly full as we did at The Social Group’s party on Monday night at The Hoxton. From the deep-fried avocado lettuce wraps to the ridiculously fresh ceviche, sliders, tacos and poutine, we shamelessly accepted seconds (and thirds) of most of the dishes. Chef Matty Matheson knows what he is doing. The updated P&L Catering menu features for spring include things like the Little Gem Lettuce salad with Stilton cheese dressing, which you can eat like a taco, rainbow trout topped with horseradish crème fraiche, grilled octopus with basil salad, lamb chops accompanied by celery and mint salsa, plus more. For your sweet tooth, two decadently dreamy new Country Festival Super-Doughnut options have been added: the banana split and New York cheesecake, served up on a wooden plate with a sharing knife (so you don’t feel as guilty for indulging).

P&L Catering offers more than passed apps and food stations.
P&L Catering is not just for passed hors d’oeuvres or late night food stations at parties (although their hot dog, noodle, taco and internationally-inspired food stations are quick crowd pleasers). While we all have a thing for  casual street fare, P&L also caters seated dinners of all types. What you won’t get is cold, rubber chicken or fish a la most weddings and sit-down functions you’ve likely attended.  Dinner options are available in three, four and five-course menu options. Or, for the mid-day corporate lunch, go above and beyond for clients and employees with things like their famous double smoked maple bacon and frittatas.

The Hoxton makes an unexpected multi-functional event space.
On Monday night, we had a chance to see the Hoxton like never before. Conveniently located at King and Bathurst, the venue is more than a nightclub and is available for corporate, social and festival events. In addition to coveted TIFF events, high profile companies like Facebook, Yahoo and Microsoft have turned to the venue to host events (and you know they don’t cut any corners). With its raw feel, complete with exposed brick walls and minimalistic décor, The Hoxton allows ample room for staging and making the space your own. It is also complete with two full bars and a semi-private VIP section (an added bonus), which can be altered to cater to various function needs. The 8000 sq. ft. space can accommodate up to 650 guests for concert and cocktail receptions, and up to 100 guests for seated dinners (perfect for smaller weddings and sit-down charity dinners). From a wedding slideshow to a corporate presentation, the venue offers full A/V servicing inclusive of sound, lighting and visual equipment, staging and technician consultation. True one-stop shop services like professional photography, photo booths, gaming booths and entertainment are also offered.

You can get a feel for it today.
You can get a feel of the quality of P&L Catering (and The Social Group in general) by stopping by Parkdale’s Parts and Labour or the Dog and Bear tonight (that is, if you are still in the dark). Also, to get a taste of what their sliders taste like, The Social Group brings a delivery service to their popular burger shop, The P&L Burger. Delivery is in partnership with Send it Courier, a bicycle delivery service specific to the downtown core. Both Parts and Labour and Dog and Bear are also available for events.
