We like surprises.
So when The Raw Chemist Juice Bar came out of nowhere (as in, just opened at the time) to claim third spot on our Best Juice Bar in the Toronto Poll, we knew we had to check it out.
Situated in The Junction at 2984 Dundas W. (a short block west of Keele), there’s no more perfect word for the Raw Chemist than pretty.
From its eggshell blue exterior to its original artistic mural inside, every detail seems to be accounted for – and they all look, well, pretty.
It’s the kind of place you can walk into and immediately feel comfortable; soft wood, friendly smiles, and lots of natural light pouring through the south facing windows.
The Raw Chemist is Jessica Risi’s baby. After being accepted to The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Risi opted instead to not just create a cold-pressed juice bar, she also wanted to build a place where people felt comfortable bringing their issues with the intention of overcoming them.
Indeed, not only is there a book-length breakdown of everything cold-pressed juices and smoothies have to offer, but Risi herself is warm and highly approachable. If you lack energy for instance, one talk with Risi and you’ll realize you need to be drinking whatever she is. Her attitude is buoyant and infectious, but also confident and inviting. It’s like she’s letting you into a club that, until right now, you never knew just how desperately you wanted to be a part of.
The juice is all pressed in-house and can last up to 72 hours per bottle. It’s as fresh as it gets and is intended to be consumed that way. The smoothies, too, are for instant consumption, whether for a sweet and healthy treat or as a way to give yourself a tasty boost.
And we’re not kidding – there are over 20 ‘boosters’ on the menu that include everything from E3Live products to chaga powder. Just tell Risi how you’re feeling, or what you’re looking for, and she’ll let you know what you need.
