The Latest on Toronto’s Scene: August 30th, 2011

Scene news bustles in today’s update, so read on and find out what you need to know to stay on top of Toronto’s developments.

Intermix opened its first Toronto location just a couple days ago. This US-based fashion retailer is cozied up on Bloor Street just West of Bay. Get ready to trend-set in updated style once you hit up this new shop, the first international location for the company. Scotch & Soda opened its Eaton Centre location earlier than expected, cracking the doors just this past Friday. The Amsterdam-based company will be opening more Canadian locations in the near future, but for now the small Eaton Centre store will surely please fashionable YPs.

The team behind Tomi-Kro will be opening The Playpen on Gerrard Street East at Carlaw in Leslieville. The new spot is expected to have retro feel and an eclectic menu. It’s been announced that favourite US chain franchise Jamba Juice will be coming to Toronto, though we find it hard to see why. The Drake Hotel’s Dining Roadshow is set to transform the space and menu into Chinatown, launching on September 8th. It’s the second transformation in the restaurants three “stops.”

The Depanneur just opened on College West, serving grab-and-go breakfasts and housing a small organic grocery. The Trump Hotel’s 31st floor restaurant has been announced: STOCK Restaurant, Bar and Lounge is set to open this fall. We received an update from the wonderful folks over at Böhmer about Fuud by Böhmer, it will be an atelier of sorts, a place to get your morning espresso, breads, grab-and-go lunches, charcuterie and prepared meals, focusing on foods that still involve you in what you’re eating. It won’t be beside Bohemian Gastropub, it will sit next to Böhmer Restaurant. And new club Parlour on Adelaide has done a few open nights, and should open fully sometime this week.
