The Future is Now: Five Emerging Designers Compete for Prestigious TOM* Award

By now, you know that Toronto Men’s Fashion Week (TOM*) is in full-force.

For all the innovative wardrobe inspiration and parties filled with the city’s finest men, TOM* is also about helping young designers break into the industry via a national and global platform to showcase their ready-to-wear menswear collections.

That’s because five finalists will compete for the TOM* WFG|Emerging Menswear Designer Award for its Spring/Summer 2016 season – and it’s a pretty big deal.

As in, the designers will go head-to-head for a chance to win a $10,000 cash prize, a one-year membership at Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI), professional lookbook images, a feature in TOM* Magazine, a feature runway show at the upcoming “YONGE ON FASHION” on Sept 9th, and a primetime runway show at TOM* Fall/Winter 2016.,

Considering that TOM* is a must-attend on the calendar’s of some of the country’s most fashionable and influential people, that’s some pretty sweet exposure.

The five finalists to compete for the WFG|EMDA are:

– Ante Meridiem, Ante Meridiem
– Elisa Medina, Nowhere
– Emeric Tchatchoua and Raymond Cheung, 3.Paradis
– Katerina Kuzheleva, Common Grounds
– Tom Caldwell, Thomas Henry

On Friday, August 21, the finalists will close TOM*s runway presentations, as a panel of Canada’s top fashion industry professionals decide the next WFG|EMDA winner. The panel includes people like TFI’s executive director Susan Langdon, Fashion Television host Glen Baxter, Canadian Fashion Awards Managing Director Vicki Milner, Fashion Designer David Dixon, and President of WFG Canada Rick Williams.

No pressure, right?

The winner will join the ranks of success stories like previous winner, Joao Paulo Guedes, who catapulted into the global spotlight after his win at TOM*s premiere season last summer.
