The Forth: The Danforth’s Latest High End Addition

Talk about a room with a view.

When Taste of the Danforth needs aerial pictures, they come to The Forth. And it’s not hard to see why.

Located on the north side of The Danforth just a few doors west of Pape (629 Danforth Ave. to be exact), The Forth is the latest addition to the east end’s best foodie strip. Its two-floor, 8000 sq. ft. layout with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on the busy road below is the perfect space for an elegant night out or a relaxing after-work pint.

Despite its name and location, however, any thought of Greek food should leave your mind now. While The Forth is extremely proud of the neighbourhood’s heritage, they wanted to bring something different to the table. And we’re not complaining.

Chef Chris Kalisperas (former Executive Chef at Brassaii) has put together an approachable menu full of quality food that rests somewhere between upscale and fine dining. Don’t worry, though, just because the food is next level doesn’t mean you always have to be. This is the kind of restaurant where designer jeans and a T are just as appropriate as heels and an LBD

Bread and pastries (and yes, desserts too) are all done in-house by pastry chef Alicia Staszczyszy. All protein is 100% local, and Kalisperas keeps The Forth as fresh and farm-to-table as possible considering he’s responsible for 150 seats.

Our seasonal white asparagus (with lemon and pistachio) delivers a delicious summer welcome while the steak tartare provides a rich juxtaposition to our first course that looks almost too pretty to eat – almost. The roasted dry-aged duck, however, tops both of the appetizers, because, well, it’s roasted dry-aged duck. Chef Staszczyszy’s lemon tart with white chocolate and lychee ice cream is the perfect way to end the meal – sweet and sour and full of robust flavours.

With black and white photos of the city playing on two large projectors, a decadent wine wall, and an elevator to take you from street level to whichever floor you’re dining on, it’s not just the food at The Forth that’s a step above the rest.

Go see for yourself. Just know that we call shotgun on the third floor lounge chairs next to the window…
