The Just For Laughs Comedy Festival is one of the biggest of its kind in the world, and Montreal hosts it every summer. Lucky for us, the 2011 line up is one of the most notable and outstanding yet! There are multiple shows to choose from; from Galas to small nightclub shows, there is really something for everyone. Now entering the final stretch, see below for a good mix of shows that we at Notable feel are not to be missed in last few days of the festival…
Louie CK (July 28, 7:30pm & 10pm)
Best known for his work as the star, executive producer, writer, and director of the FX Network’s hit series Louie, Louie CK will be gracing the Just For Laughs Festival’s presence by hosting a Gala show. We are pretty sure he’s one of the hardest-working stand-up comics in the world, only one reason why this is a must-see show.
The Nasty Show (July 29, 8pm & 10:30pm)
The Nasty Show has quickly become the most coveted show at every year’s festival, with tickets that sell out very fast and front seats that are lined up for hours before the show. This year’s is hosted by the Roastmaster General himself, Jeff Ross, and stars Jay Oakerson, Ari Shaffir, Mike Ward, Mike Britt, Anthony Jeselnik, and Bobby Slayton. Expect an R-rated performance, and if you are sitting in the front, be prepared to be roasted!
Modern Love: The Relationship Show (July 29, 7pm)
Yet another annual show that is so notable they bring it back year after year, the Relationship Show this festival is going to be extra special as a result of their guest host, Eric Stonestreet, from the hit show Modern Family. Eric, along with Tim Minchin, Bob Marley, Debra DiGiovanni, Russell Kane, Robert Kelly, and Fiona O’Loughlin will tackle the ins and outs of relationships, from dating to marriage, and put a spin on it that will have you and your significant other howling for days.
The New Faces of Comedy (July 27th, 7pm & 9pm; July 28th, 9pm & 10:30pm; July 29th, 8:30pm; July 30th, 7pm, 8:30pm, & 10:30pm)
The New Faces of Comedy show is by far our favourite annual series at Notable. The producers of Just For Laughs spend the entire year sifting through thousands of applicant tapes of new upcoming comeidans and their best work. From there, they pick a select few who get the chance to show comedy fans what they are made up, before they become huge! (Which many have as a result of this very show.)
