‘The Dress’ is Back…But with a Great Cause Behind It

The dress that set the Internet on fire last week (and probably made you hate your best friend for being colourblind) is back.

Only this time, it’s being used to convey a powerful message surrounding domestic violence.

This morning, The Salvation Army in South Africa tweeted an image of a bruised and battered woman wearing the dress (the white and gold version), with the caption “Why is it so Hard to See Black and Blue.”

It goes on to read, “The only illusion is you think it was her choice. One in six women are victims of abuse. Stop abuse against women.”

Not surprisingly, the retweets – many accompanied by the hashtag #StopAbuseAginstWomen – are already gaining quick momentum.

If the Internet can rally around something as asinine as the colour of a dress, the hope here is that the PSA can gain half as much attention for a cause immeasurably more important.
