The Business of Weed – October 19th, 2018

This week in the world of weed…

The Business of Weed is a weekly series brought to you by Jay Rosenthal, the Co-founder and President of Business of Cannabis, to keep you up to date on all weed-related news. Here are this week’s biggest headlines.

10/17/18
An historic day for Canadian cannabis. Wednesday, the country ushered in legal, adult-use recreational cannabis. The country celebrated in a variety of ways – but mostly uniquely Canadian ways – by waiting in line in an orderly fashion (both online and IRL) to buy cannabis.

Short Supply
Canadians apparently have a ravenous appetite for cannabis. The long-lines and big demand caused some shortages in the market – and likely into the future as well. Canadian cannabis companies will catch up, eventually, but for now, some empty shelves are the norm.

Post Office Fun
On Ontario, the only way to buy legal cannabis is online. The delivery of the online orders is being handled by Canada Post – and you’ll need to show ID in order to receive the delivery. Begging the question: Who is home when the mail is delivered? Which means you’ll need to go the post office for pick up – making the Canada the home to the most fun post offices in the world.
