Thanks, Toronto: November 15 to 21, 2014

This week our execs got cold to give back, celebrities grilled us an alternative to The Big Mac, and our healthcare made the US look like they’re on crack.

While we’re not entirely proud of our rhyming skills this week, we are beaming about our city…

Our 1%ers Were Among the Best Of ‘Em

For a fourth year, this time spanning 14 cities, The Covenant House quarterbacked The Sleep Out: Executive Edition. And for a third year in a row, our city’s top Es, Vs, and Cs were helping lead the charge. Not only was it great that we were again on the short list of participating cities, but our crew was deep and poised to get the job done. This year execs from companies like Purolator, CIBC and Chestnut Part Real Estate all joined in. And having cleared the $150,000 mark last year, once the final tally is in, we’re confident our contingent will be making a big contribution towards this year’s total goal of $810,000 (which thankfully, has already been passed).

We Got a Wahlburgers… and a Jenny McCarthy Sighting

To celebrate a good week’s work, every Friday afternoon the Notable team strips down to jeans and bandanas and enjoys a round of cheeseburgers together while listening to Good Vibrations on repeat. Some call it “tradition,” some call it “weird and gross.” Either way, word must have gotten out, because this past week our dream venue opened up in downtown Toronto; Wahlburgers launched their first Canadian location on Blue Jays Way (and from what we can tell it’s got plenty of The Right Stuff). Donnie Wahlberg, his brother Paul, and his wife, Jenny McCarthy were there to cut the ribbon along with their notorious Toronto partner, Michael Wekerle. If their burgers, salads, and sandwiches stay even half as amusing as their ownership team, we’re all in for a treat. Wahlburgers, we’re proud to have you.

We (as part of Canada) Once Again Made US Healthcare Look like a Terrible Joke

There are so many reasons living in Toronto is fantastic. But perhaps the most important reason is that it’s in Canada, and Canada doesn’t charge you one million dollars to have a premature baby. You know who does? The USA. Yup. As you probably heard, a Canadian couple on vacation in Hawaii was surprised by the birth of their child 3 months prior to its due date. Because of the timing and the child’s weak state, it was kept in an intensive care unit for 2 months to ensure it stayed alive. Then, they were given a bill for about a million bucks and they weren’t on an episode of Punk’d. We would NEVER let that happen. Ever. Period. Because this country, and all its cities, is awesome.

How can you not be in love with the place?
