Tech Savvy Travel: This Smart Luggage Has a Built in Charger and Scale

Like all things, travel carry-ons keep improving thanks to technology.

Raden, a new smart luggage company, has followed the lead of other companies aimed at changing the future of travel, and has released its impressive tech savvy suitcase.

Raden luggage comes in two sizes – a 22-inch carry-on and a 28-inch check-in – which both come equipped with an integrated scale, built-in-charger, and blue tooth enabled location awareness technology.

Yes, a scale and a charger.

Users can pair their suitcases to the sleek Raden smartphone app, which allows travellers to track the whereabouts of their cases, which essentially means that the next time the airlines lose your luggage you’ll still know exactly where it is. You’ll also be able to receive relevant information about your travel, including estimated security wait times.

The cases even come outfitted with a portable 7,800mAh battery and two USB ports, so you can keep your cell phone and laptop charged at all times. The scale we mentioned is turned on by using the handle.

To insure the safety of your personal belongings, the luggage goes into complete TSA-approved lockdown mode, using just the zippers and built-in locking device, it resembles something from James Bond’s repertoire.

The company has already managed to turn some industry titan’s heads and lock down $3.5 million in funding led by First Round Capital and Lerer Hippeau Ventures, as well as additional funding from Silas Chou and Rachel Zoe.

The A22 Carry sells for $295, while the A28 Check can be picked up for $395. Or you can purchase the entire set for $595. While some travellers may find the price tag a bit steep, they need to remember that it always pays to travel smart.
