#TBT: 19 Reasons Being a Kid in the 80s Was the Best

Being a kid in the 80s was hands down the best time to be a kid.

Ever.

From epic tunes and TV shows, to fashion that is now inspiring hipsters all over the world, the 80s might have been a tad extreme and tacky but they were more than memorable.

So we’re here to take you on a walk down the neon memory lane of spandex, bad haircuts, and cringe-worthy toys with 19 reasons why it was the 80s was the best time be a kid.

1. Hoping that one day you will be as cool as one of the characters in The Breakfast Club.

2. That creepy but epic E.T. vinyl doll made us fuzzy inside

3. ”Life is like a hurricane here in Duckburg. Race cars, lasers, aeroplanes, it’s a duck-blur!” You damn well know what that’s from and you’re probably singing along as we speak.

4. Watching Labyrinth and being forever haunted by David Bowie. And yes, we know that’s Jennifer Connelly.

5. Building your G.I. Joe collection was the highlight of your week.

6. Hair scrunchies were cool. So were scrunchy socks. #ScrunchLife 

7. If you owned a pair of flashing L.A. Gears, you were the bomb.

8. Smurfette was your female idol…or your crush.

9. Comparing the contents of your lunchbox was the best (or the worst) part of your day.

10. The Babysitters Club, Goosebumps, and Sweet Valley Twins.

11. Duck Hunt and the orange plastic gun. That is all.

12. New Kids On The Block were the Boy Band.

13. Hammer Pants. 

14. Wearing neon spandex biker shorts all day. Everyday.

15. Dirty Dancing hit the movie screens. We still haven’t recovered.

16. Playing outside with friends until dinnertime felt safe. 

17. No social media. None. It was perfect.

18. From Fraggle Rock to Punky Brewster, every 80s show seemed worth watching.

19. Jelly shoes. You know you still wish you had a pair.
