SUWU Restaurant: The New Kid On The Block

Wednesday night brought out some of the most fashion savvy rolled-up jean cuff-wearing cool kids in Montreal for the opening of SUWU, situated at the boisterous intersection of Boulevard St. Laurent and Rue Prince Arthur. We knew it was going to be good night when A Tribe Called Quest was playing in the background and our drinks were called “Wu-Tang” and “Big Booty Ho”

Wednesday night brought out some of the most fashion savvy rolled-up jean cuff-wearing cool kids in Montreal for the opening of SUWU, situated at the boisterous intersection of Boulevard St. Laurent and Rue Prince Arthur. We knew it was going to be good night when A Tribe Called Quest was playing in the background and our drinks were called “Wu-Tang” and “Big Booty Ho.”

The place was jam-packed and we luckily snagged a couch and two chairs right by the entrance thanks to PR girl and close buddy of ours Jillian Zrihen from Tracey Brooke PR. The space was a blend of vintage, urban chicness nestled within a 1,500-square foot room that screamed cozy coolness.

Designers Amlyne Phillips and Tania Pero from boutique Ma really nailed the decor, from the handpicked furniture from local antique dealers to the handcrafted tables. The star of their eclectic taste has to be a restored 1957 Aces High pinball machine, a beauty!

Owners Nathan Gannage and Zach Macklovitch, despite their young age, have been part of the nightlife scene for a number of years and have gained great insight as to what young professionals are looking for…and so SUWU was born!

Now, let’s talk a little grub! SUWU offers delicious and VERY affordable culinary delights served until 2am every night, including the signature Mac n Cheese Grilled Cheese dish (oh, baby!). You know you’re in good hands when the kitchen is led by both the Head Chef and Sous Chef who’ve worked at Toque before joining SUWU. We indulged in the succulent beef tartar below…jealous?

As if this spot couldn’t be any cooler already, they will be offering decadent truffle popcorn on Monday Movie Nights from 9pm-11pm, where screenings from new or classic feature films will be shown. Tuesdays will be Soul Food night featuring Ribs and Fried Chicken n Biscuits, with tunes from artists like Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin playing throughout the restaurant. Saturday and Sunday brunches are in talks and we will keep you posted as soon as news hits…in the meantime, put on your best skinny jeans, head over to 3581 St.Laurent and say what’s up…they are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday from 7pm-3am; and Thursday and Friday from 5pm-3am.
