Survey: Young People Value the Internet More Than Daylight and Hot Water

A sure sign of how far we’ve regressed as a civilization, a recent survey has found that young people value an internet connection over things that sustain life on earth, like daylight and hot water.

The study found that 7 in 10 (69 per cent) people between the ages of 18 and 25 identified connecting to the internet as imperative to their quality of life. Sixty-four per cent, meanwhile, said daylight is paramount to their well-being. The next most desirable was hot water, at 57 per cent.

Given that the study was conducted in Britain, it can perhaps be said that the respondents simply don’t regard bright days as necessary on account of unfamiliarity.

One encouraging result was that freedom of speech was identified as the most important thing to maintain quality of life, which 81 per cent of participants placed at the top of their list.

Near the bottom of the list was sleep, which young people really couldn’t care less about. Only 11 per cent identified a good nights’ sleep as playing a role in their contentment. This correlates with a follow-up question that asked respondents what they would most like to change in order to improve their quality of life; 28 per cent said they sought more sleep.

The biggest change young people would like to see is in their time away from work – 34 per cent want more holidays.

“Having a bigger following on social media” was wished for by a concerning 14 per cent.
