Survey Reveals Where Canada’s Funniest Singles Live

When it comes to dating, a laugh-filled first date is a pretty good indication you’ll be able to lock down a second.

That’s why it’s a good thing we Canadians are known for our comedic chops (aka Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Seth Rogan, and Martin Short, just to name a few).

A recent EliteSingles study analyzed data from 170,000 Canadian singles registered with the dating site to find the funniest singles in the country. After analyzing the data, the findings revealed some surprising results: Apparently, singles from Leduc are the funniest in Canada.

That’s in Alberta (’cause we know you didn’t know that).

Well, it’s not that they’re confirmed as the funniest, it’s that they’ve confirmed themselves as the most adept at making others laugh.

The survey asked the participants how strongly they agreed with the statement “I can often make others laugh.” The scores were then averaged out by area to determine the funniest cities in Canada.

There must be something in the water in Leduc: The results revealed that not only are singles in Leduc the funniest in Alberta, they are also the funniest in the country – or at least the most confident in their ability to generate LOLs.

Of course, the ‘hilarious’ set from Leduc aren’t the only funny singles in Canada. Just in time for World Happiness Day on the 20th of March (yes, it’s a thing), the study has uncovered the funniest city in each of the ten provinces:

Newfoundland and Labrador: St John’s
Prince Edward Island: Charlottetown
Nova Scotia: Halifax (HRM)
New Brunswick: Fredericton
Quebec: L’ÎlePerrot
Ontario: Miltonelite
Manitoba: Winnipeg
Saskatchewan: Saskatoon
Alberta: Leduc
British Columbia: Langley & Coquitlam (tie)

Taking it a step further, EliteSingles wanted to see if there was a difference in levels of funniness between the sexes. Those primitive few who still think that ‘women aren’t funny’ are quite, quite wrong.

In fact, Alberta was one of three provinces (along with Ontario and Manitoba) where men and women consider themselves equally funny. Additionally, in a further five provinces (BC, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI), women actually beat men to the ‘funniest’ title.

That means that there were only two provinces – Quebec and Saskatoon – where men outranked women on the ‘making others laugh’ scale.

When it comes to dating, these findings matter.

EliteSingles psychologist Salama Marine thinks that we are fascinated by funny singles because humour brings us closer to one another: ‘’Laughing together is probably the best sign of a healthy relationship for a couple,” says Marine. “Humour and self-mockery definitely help to forge happy memories and the ability to make each other giggle with just a glance creates a strong friendship between two people.’’

So if you’re hopelessly single, you may want to brush up on your “funniness.” If you’re looking for a funny partner, well, you may want to check out the job listings in Leduc.
