Timberlands are one of the most recognizable brands of boots in the world, and though they have been off the radar of many, they’re back with a vengeance. Originating in 1973, Timberland boots have been a staple in hip-hop culture, but Timberland is also making its way through the streets with all different styles and communities.
In the early 1980s, The Timberland brand was known for quality hand-sewn boat shoes, but by the mid-1980s the yellow boot caught everyone’s attention. No one had ever seen anything like the rugged, waterproof nubuck leather boots, and so the yellow boot was adopted into popular culture. Today, celebrities and fashion icons have picked up the Timberland trend.
One of the newest trends is outfit coordinating for couples, and so it is no surprise that many twosomes and even families have been wearing matching Tims.
Beyonce recently shared a photo of her, Jay Z and their daughter Blue Ivy’s matching classic yellow Timberland kicks.
The Kardashian Clan (including Kanye and Scott Disick) also made the trend a family affair.
Though Timberlands seem like a tougher shoe, many feminine fashionistas have added the yellow boot onto this fall and winter’s must-have footwear list.
For Timberland’s 40th birthday this year, the company released the “40 Below” Super Boot sold exclusively in Canada at Community 54. We asked owner Joel Reilly a bit about the brand and the drop of the 40 Below:
“The 40 Below Super Boot was originally released in 1979, designed to withstand the harsh elements, and is the latest addition to Timberland’s 40th anniversary range. Last week, this boot was launched exclusively throughout Canada at Community 54 and there were line-ups around the block as there were only 34 pairs of the black on black 40 Below Super Boot available to purchase. Not only does Timberland stand the test of time, but so do their products. This is indisputably validated in both the design and quality of Timberlands.”
No matter what the trends are and how quickly they change, Timberlands have always remained consistently true. Their versatility allows the company to focus on work, utility and the outdoors, as well as penetrate into the fashion world.
