Sukho Thai Rolls into Dundas West

From The Curry Shack in Thailand to their first Toronto location on Parliament, Chef Nuit, her husband Jeff, and the rest of the family have come a long way with their food. Some call it authentic, some call it “straight-edge”, but most of us will just call it awesome.

More importantly, there’s a shiny new place on Dundas West for all of us to enjoy it. And we do mean all of us…

“We made it affordable for a reason; we want it to be for everyone.” Well, Joel (one of the family owners), everyone thanks you.

At 1442 Dundas West, just west of Gladstone, Sukho Thai has now opened their third location, seating 60 people in about 2,500 square feet of wood-laced walls and decor.

With all the cooks trained under Chef Nuit (the heart and soul behind Pai as well), you can expect the same premium quality and the same authentic flavours and ingredients – they even import their fish oil from Thailand – but you can also expect a few new treats.

On the Dundas West menu, you’ll find delicious additions like the crispy fried shrimp rolls (with stunning presentation and some decent kick), calamari, peanut chicken satay skewers, cashew chicken dinner, and a new dessert – fried banana and ice cream.

Yes, you can start drooling now.

But don’t think the new items have completely taken over from the classics. Perhaps their most notable dish, the Khao Soi, is still there in fine, aromatic, hardy yellow form. The classic sukho THAI Pad Thai still tops their noodle menu, and their vegan, gluten-free Fresh Veggie Rolls are still available as a refreshing, colorful appetizer.

And you can’t forget the drinks.

In addition to their beer selection (which includes Singha and Chang) the new spot offers 3 cocktails you won’t find at any of their other locations: a tamarind whisky sour, a mango margherita made with ginger beer, and their Thai lemongrass mojito. Or if you’re more of a teetotaler, you can always grab their delicious Thai iced tea.

The vibe at Sukho is chill but energetic. The wide open space provides a social atmosphere, the wood a nice grounding character, and the playlist of old school reggae, ska, hip hop, and vintage rock offer a cool and diverse soundtrack to accompany your meal.

And did we mention the fried banana and ice cream?
