Sugar Shacking in Montreal

With spring time in Montreal comes sugaring season. And with the sugaring season comes the opening of dozens of establishments within miles of Montreal that offer their take on the Quebec tradition.  Here are a few sugar shacks that we recommend checking out during this upcoming sugar shacking season…

Cabane a sucre du Pied de Cochon
Chef Martin Picard of the Food Network and owner of Montreal’s famous Pied De Cochon restaurant revisits traditional recipes while at the same time adding his wild outdoorsy twist. Reservations are required way in advance for this famous sugar shack where you can enjoy dishes like oysters served with maple jelly, lobster omelets, Gaspor pork shoulder braised in smoke, and their famous pea soup.

Erabliere Raymond Meunier & Fils
This maple farm uses old-fashioned décor and warmth to draw its customers. The offerings are traditional and served in an all-you-can-eat style. When you are not eating you can visit their farm and hike through trails around the property, listen to traditional Quebec folk music, and sample maple taffy on snow.

La Cabane
This is Montreal’s urban sugar shack offered right in the heart of Old Montreal. It is nestled into the Scena complex and offers dishes that blend traditional and contemporary innovation. Their meal offering includes duck noodle soup, blood pudding pie with apple chutney and crispy pig’s breast.

Erabliere le Rossignol
Located just 15 minutes from Montreal, this sugar shack offers traditional sugaring of meals. The restaurant serves all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and guests are invited to tour the maple syrup farm, explore their trails through their forest, and taste maple taffy.
