It was relevant then and it’s relvant now.
Straight outta Compton to your nearest Cineplex – N.W.A are hitting the big screen on August 14th.
The biopic’s official trailer was officially released at last night’s Grammys, predominately featuring N.W.A. members Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Eazy-E as they literally take the audience on a ride through their ‘hood.
Notable Compton rappers The Game and Kendrick Lamar appear in the trailer’s intro to praise the group’s influence on music, life, and social issues at a time where racial tensions were erupting across the United States.
“When I think of N.W.A, it wasn’t even music to me, it was a real lifestyle. Brothas from my neighborhood that made it out,” recalls Lamar.
Their story is illustrated in the brash, in-your-face style N.W.A. are known for, focusing heavily on the ‘F*ck tha Police’ movement and even connecting their struggle to similar issues many still face today.
Take it away, Dre…
