Spring’s Biggest Lipstick Trend: Orange is the New Red

Red lipstick is typically a makeup staple, but this fall orange has been spotted all over the runways… so it’s a sure bet you’ll see it everywhere come spring. A more electric hue than the typical salmon and melon shades we are familiar with, the bold orange lipstick trend is flattering on various skin tones and hair colours.

From Chanel to Yves Saint Laurent, Dior to John Galliano, practically every Spring 2014 runway show had bright, brilliant, gloriously orange lips. Even Rag & Bone veered from their regularly neutral shades and selected a bright, neon orange, matte lip.

Celebrities with diverse skin tones such as Jessica Alba, Sienna Miller and Rihanna have been seen glowing in the tangerine trend.

If you are fair or have pink and red in your skin, opting for a more pastel, coral or reddish hue is most flattering. Warmer skin tones are complimented by bolder shades with gold and yellow undertones. Darker skin is most suited with orange tones that contain a brown or deep-red.

Though this mandarin mouth seems quite adventurous, pairing it with a subdued eye reflects a sophisticated and classic Hollywood look that is appropriate for work.
