Spending May Long Weekend in Toronto

The weather is going to be gorgeous this weekend, a rare phenomenon for May 2-4. If you are one of the lucky ones escaping town, enjoy. If not, there are a few fun things to do around the city this weekend:

Escape
The Toronto Island provides a temporary escape and an unmatched view of the city. Bring your own wine to lunch, nestled among trees in the Rectory Cafe, which re-opens tomorrow following renovations and is one of our favourite brunch spots. Take a lengthy walk or bike ride through the various islands or take advantage of the weather on one of the beaches. Indulge your inner child at Centreville with a spin on some of the more adult appropriate rides or just stop by for a candy apple or cotton candy.

Sports
The Jays are in town this weekend with a three-game series against the Mets; tonight (7:07pm), Saturday (1:07pm) and Sunday (1:07pm). There is no question whether the dome will be open!

Laugh
Toronto Sketch Festival presents The Sketchiest Sketch Show at Comedy Bar on Saturday at 8pm, featuring local comedy troupes Approximately 3 Peters, Smells Like the 80s and The Templeton Philharmonic. Meanwhile at Second City main stage, Live Wrong and Prosper continues this weekend; Friday and Saturday (8pm and 10:30pm) and Sunday (7pm).

Art
The Artisans at the Distillery of Art Show takes place this Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 11am-6pm, in the Distillery District. The show features some of the city’s best in pottery, textiles, clothing, photography, jewellery and more, in addition to gourmet food.

Fireworks
Victoria Day Weekend would not be complete without fireworks. Always a reliable bet, fireworks will light up the sky at Ashbridges Bay Park on at Monday at 9:45 p.m.
