Six Ways to Transition Your Wardrobe Into Spring

One day the sun is shining and we are strolling without sleeves down the streets and the next we’ve brought our parkas back out as a result of freezing temperatures and snow. Scarves or sunnies? Open toe shoes or tights with ankle boots? The early days of spring are unpredictable, but we have come up with a few tips to help your sartorial choices during the transition of seasons.

1. Mix and match new purchases with wintertime staples
Avoid seasonal limbo by combining your warmer wardrobe with fresher, more up-to-date pieces. Mix your season-less staples with new, light-weight pieces to breathe life into your look.

2. Integrate lighter hues
Unless you were ahead of the game and all about winter white and pastels this past season, your wardrobe has most likely consisted of darker shades over the last few months. As summer draws near, lighten and brighten up your wardrobe by integrating colour into your ensembles.

3. Put away your heavier pieces
Retire any pieces that are designed to keep you warm. Fabrics such as wool, flannel and fleece should be put away. Puffy jackets, furs and thicker turtlenecks represent freezing temperatures, so let them hibernate until the fall.

4. Appropriate accessories
Winter accessories such as mittens and earmuffs should be stored. Winter scarves should be swapped out with chic, polished ones. You can finally wear your more fashion-forward sunglasses and women can even brighten up their look with brilliant make-up and vibrant nail polishes.

5. Layering
Substitute your winter jacket with a leather or denim one. Lighter jackets such as trenches or varsities allow for comfort with the onset of spring. There are countless options when using light layers during drastic temperature swings and erratic weather.

6. Play it safe
We all know what it is like to get sprayed with brown slush by a passing car, so play it safe on those wetter days and avoid wearing your expensive suede, open toe shoes or white during soggy spring days.
