We’re always on the lookout for unique ways to get out and enjoy the offerings of our city, so when we heard news of a series of upcoming winemakers’ dinners set to take place at Shangri-La Hotel’s MARKET by Jean-Georges later this month, we wasted no time booking ourselves in for the experience… and just in time for the return of the Vancouver International Wine Festival, no less.
Kicking off the series, MARKET will play host to Caroline Frey from Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné and Château La Lagune next Thursday (February 27) featuring a variety of wines from both the Burgundy and the Rhône Valley regions of France.
The evening will delve into the history, regional terroirm and of course feature an extensive tasting paired alongside a four-course dinner. On the menu: Cherry Liquid Centre Foie Gras, Pistachio Crumble and Corn Duck, Popcorn Sweetbread and more gourmet offerings.
Next up, it’s a gourmet pizza party, MARKET-style, featuring the wines of Cannonball Wine Company next Friday, February 28th. A more casual setting will cost you $35 and feature Yoav Gila (CEO and Founding Partner) as he leads you through a tasting of Cannonball’s signature wines, including their Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Nosh on MARKET’s gourmet pizzas as you mingle with like-minded young professionals.
Finally, adding a bit of sparkle to the series is the Louis Roederer Champagne event on March 8th. Hosted by Louis Roederer Managing Director of Champagne Frederic Rouzaud, it’ll be an evening of fine food and plenty of bubbles. Sip your way through signature vintages of Cristal and sample a special multi-course menu featuring Butter Poached Lobster, Curry Sabayon and Slow Poached Rabbit Loin (to name a few).
Already known for a stellar cocktail and culinary program, MARKET is more than on the mark with its exceptional wine program as well, with Restaurant Manager David Auer stating that their “Winemaker’s Series is a great way for the restaurant to offer clients a fun and educational evening where they can learn first-hand about some of the amazing wines from around the world.”
We think it’s the perfect way to get schooled on all things wine.
