New Sex Study Confirms Straight Women Have the Fewest Orgasms

A study published earlier this month by the Archives of Sexual Behaviour has found that heterosexual women have the least amount of orgasms.

Heterosexual women around the world already knew that was true but, moving on…

The findings come from a study of 52,000 people in the United States that was designed to study the “orgasm gap” between multiple sexual orientations and genders. Here is how the proportion of people who “usually” orgasm, ranked in frequency by gender and sexual orientation:

  • 65% of heterosexual women
  • 66% of bisexual women
  • 86% of lesbian women
  • 88% of bisexual men
  • 89% of gay men
  • 95% of heterosexual men

The objective of the study was to indicate that the orgasm gap can, in fact, be reduced. The simple fact that homosexual women orgasm more often than heterosexual women proves that “straight” women can have more orgasms if they — and their sexual partners — change their behaviours.

Also not surprising to heterosexual women around the world is how one of the “other behaviours” that the study found will provide more orgasms to heterosexual women is oral sex.

More oral sex would also add more orgasms to the sex lives of lesbian women, bisexual women, gay men and bisexual men.

Comparatively few women orgasm from penetrative sex alone and so the study by Archives of Sexual Behaviour said these other behaviours are of “particular importance” to greater orgasms in women:

  • Asking for what they wanted in bed
  • Praising their partner for something they did in bed
  • Calling or emailing to tease about doing something sexual
  • Wearing sexy lingerie
  • Trying new sexual positions
  • Anal stimulation
  • Talking about or acting out sexual fantasies
  • Engaging in sexy talk and expressions of love during sex

The report said there were both social and evolutionary ideas around why men and women have different rates of orgasm, including the stigma against women expressing sexual desire preventing sexual discovery and a belief in some men that most women orgasm from penetrative sex.

And from an evolutionary perspective they suggested the male and female orgasms served different purposes which could also have an effect.

This male orgasm is all about ejaculation to ensure reproduction while in women it “facilitates bonding with a long-term romantic partner”, the report said.
