Sarrah and Bret of Show and Tell: Today’s Notable Young Entrepreneurs

Today’s Notable Young Entrepreneurs are Sarrah and Bret of Show &Tell Fashion, a company they launched to bring some of the most sought-after international brands to the Canadian marketplace…

Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
As co-owners of Show & Tell Fashion, we wear many hats. Show & Tell is Canadian-owned and operated distribution company responsible for bringing premium fashion apparel, accessories and footwear brands to the Canadian marketplace. We have the exclusive distribution rights to some of the most sought-after brands from the United States, Europe and Australia.

Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
We both had worked separately in the fashion industry for many years. We love the business, but wanted to be in charge of our own destiny and do things our way; a new time with a new way of thinking and working. We wanted to work closer with our customers and the brands we distributed, to be more modern in how we worked, grow brands strategically over time, and treat our team, brands and customers like partners. That is our main goal at S&T – it’s something that we both focus on. And something that set us apart from the rest.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
Everyday is different. The fashion industry is fast-paced and ever-changing, which makes it interesting but also challenging. There is always a new brand, a new collection and new trends; things change and are exciting. The people we work with are what really make it the best.  The most challenging is continuing to find a balance between work, family and pleasure.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Continuing to grow our incredible company; travelling more for pleasure and less for work and enjoying time with our families while continuing to work hard and staying successful and motivated.

What does success look like to you?
Sarrah: I think everyone has a different idea of what success is, but being happy defines success for me.

Bret: Success to me is being able to support my family and do fun things.

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
The most memorable milestone has been, and is still is, signing on a new brand that we have worked hard to bring into our roster. Sometimes we work for a long time until we acquire the brand we have set out to get; once we get the brand and are able to be successfully sell it, the satisfaction is amazing.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Follow your dreams, stick to your gut, and don’t compare yourself to the competition. Whatever you do, make sure where you go to work is somewhere that makes you happy.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
Yes, many. It’s a big part of who we both are individually and something we have infiltrated into Show & Tell. We both have young children, and because of that have a soft for children’s charities.  We support and raise money the Montreal Children’s Hospital, support and have done fashion shows for sick kids in Vancouver, and also donate a lot of clothes each year to underprivileged families through Share the Warmth and other local organizations

Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
We both are loyal to iPhone.
