Rope

Vertigo Mystery Theatre presents Patrick Hamilton’s Rope, in The Playhouse at The Vertigo Theatre Centre

Written in 1929, Rope tells the tale of two upper class Oxford students obsessed with committing the perfect murder. As an exercise in intellectual superiority they strangle an innocent classmate and place the body in a trunk. The finishing touch on their crime is to invite the victim’s family and friends over to dine in the same room where they have concealed the body, serving drinks off the makeshift coffin. But no crime is perfect. As the evening progresses and the drinks flow, the young killers become increasingly brash. Events spiral out of their control as their dinner party ends in an unsettling conclusion.
