Our Favourite Diner in Calgary

For Calgary’s breakfast aficionados, Diner Deluxe (804 Edmonton Trail NE) is often at the top of the list for early morning dining spots. They have been serving up made-from-scratch comfort food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and, everyone’s favourite, brunch, since 2001.

The retro Cafe has a 50s vibe and is always jammed with YPs, especially on weekends, enjoying innovative twists on classic diner favourites. So don’t be surprised if there is a lineup to get in.  We suggest getting your name on the list, grabbing a cup of Joe (self-serve is available at the door) and checking out the adjacent bakery, Urban Baker. Just make sure your entire party is in attendance when your table is ready as they only seat full parties.

The wait is definitely worth it. You can’t help but feel as if you have been transported into an era gone by. They’ve done kitchy 50s without being tacky and it doesn’t detract from the amazing food. Quite the opposite, really.

For savoury individuals, try the farmers bacon, roasted red pepper, caramelized onion and aged white cheddar omelette. Take the next step and make your hash browns “breakfast poutine” (aged cheddar and house-madehollandaise sauce).

Looking for decadence? We suggest the Urban Bakers chocolate sourdough French toast with grilled banana.

Always at the forefront of food trends, Diner Deluxe also offers multiple gluten-free options. They also support local farmers and make almost everything from scratch, which has people coming from all corners of the city to dine.

Of course we must mention that they’re are open late, serving gourmet diner dinners into the night with a fantastic wine and cocktail list to complement.  Whether it’s Sunday brunch or Tuesday dinner, Diner Deluxe is taking orders and satisfying Calgary YPs.
