Project K Dazzles on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

One of the newer benefit evenings to hit the Montreal scene, Project K is bound to become a mainstay on the YP social agenda.

In only its second year, non-profit organization Project K set itself the lofty goal of raising $50,000 to fund a much-needed laundry facility for the HIV/AIDS Care and Treatment Center at the Kilema District Hospital in Tanzania, and succeeded in putting on a high-energy event like seasoned fundraising veterans – not to mention giving guests a fantastic party.

Taking place at La Toundra, an event space on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve that formerly housed the Canadian Pavilion of Expo 67, the seamless soirée hit all the high notes thanks, as always, to top-notch partners.

After the requisite photo opp for the media screen, we ‘meeted and greeted’ with a welcome cocktail by Cointreau while caterer Olive Orange provided delicious and plentiful small plates as the new ‘cocktail dînatoire as dinner’ we’ve come to appreciate, and Daniel Notkin of the Old Port Fishing Co. headed up a top-shelf oyster bar with some of the best bi-valves we’ve sampled all season.

With a two-tier ticket system, wine and beer were open bar while VIP ticket holders enjoyed reserved seating and bottles of spirits – just right when it came to taking in   special entertainment in the form of a rousing drum performance.

An attractive second floor silent auction featured hot items from LASIK MD, Sugar Sammy tickets, and Dom Perignon to name but a few. A coveted country weekend getaway in Prince Edward County seemed like just the thing yours truly needed, except for twice being outbid! No matter, as the important thing was that more money was raised for the cause.

The guestlist included a varied mix of patrons, and counted young professionals and entrepreneurs dedicated to doing their part in supporting the efforts, as well as long-standing VIPs Brian and Mila Mulroney and fashion retail powerhouse Ursula Babiarz (of Ursula B) among attendees.
