Power Ball Returns for a Night of Art-Filled Pleasure

We’ve said it before: when it comes to Toronto fundraisers, Power Ball is not to miss.

Trust us.

Kicking off the summer event circuit, The Power Plant’s annual hot-ticket event returns for its 18th edition, Power Ball XVIII: Pleasure Principle. The theme invites guests to give way to the seeking of their innermost desires in an immersive experience within the walls of the beloved contemporary art gallery on June 2nd.

As usual, the event offers a sense of discovery as guests make their way through the sprawling space, met with photo-worthy installations, creative food stations, live performances, and run-ins with some of the city’s finest along the way.

The evening begins with a VIP celebration that’s worth dishing out the additional dollars for (especially when they go toward a cause as great as Toronto’s contemporary art scene). Beginning at 7:00pm, the VIP celebration will feature custom cocktails from date night go-to Bar Chef and a special presentation sponsored by Drake Hotel Properties by New York-based artist Ryan McNamara , who has been hailed as an “international art sensation” and staged major productions around the world. Of course, VIP access also means a first look at the transformed space in all of its art-filled glory.

You’ll find work from several talented Canadian artists throughout, including a site-specific opium den installation by Karen Tam; an exploration of (over)stimulation, comfort sensuality, fantasy and imagination by Laura Kikauka; a playful nod to childhood memories and games by Kempster Jamrozik Studio; and a light projection piece evoking ecstasy and euphoria by interdisciplinary artist Jordan Söderberg Mills.

If you’ve seen past installations, you’ll already know that the attention-grabbing, boundary-pushing work at Power Ball inspires both conversation and photo-ops alike (so make sure your phone’s on full charge).

Max Mara returns as the Presenting Sponsor of Power Ball for the second consecutive year and will offer multiple on-site visual installations that incorporate the brand’s luxury Italian heritage within an artistic context.

You also can expect lively music throughout the night, including sounds from Chicago house music pioneer DJ Mark Farina. Catering will be provided by the always-reliable Parts & Labour and overseen by Chef Matty Matheson. To wash down the gourmet eats, there will be no shortage of spirits by Toronto Distillery Co., wine by Château des Charmes, beer by Kronenbourg 1664, and water by FLOW.

Of course, another added perk to Power Ball is the outdoor element, where guests can indulge in a cocktail-filled lakeside celebration under the stars.

Finally, you know it’s going to be a top-tier event when philanthropist powerhouses and society page regulars Belinda StronachJennen Phelan and Jennifer Bassett are the co-chairs.
