Pour One Out: Toronto Could Be Getting a Brewery District in the Near Future

You may soon be able to indulge in Toronto’s entire brew scene in one giant, multi-block expanse.

Thirteen local breweries and a city councillor are working together to develop a Brewery District, which will stretch from Bellwoods Brewery’s newest Ossington and Dupont location all the way to The Junction. All 13 breweries will have a location in the district, and the first Brewery District Festival has already been planned for July 31, 2016.

Participating members include:
Bandit Brewery, Bellwoods Brewery, Blood Brothers Brewing, Burdock Brewing, Duggan’s Brewery, Folly Brewpub, Halo Brewery, Henderson Brewing, Indie Alehouse Brewing, Junction Craft Brewing, Lansdowne Brewery, Rainhard Brewing, and Station Cold Brew.

The project will be a mix between what Toronto’s Distillery District used to boast and how some of Canada’s most renowned wine regions have developed.

“The original plan was simply to borrow from what had been done in wine country – very specifically what has happened in Napa and in Niagara,” says Steve Himel, Chair and GM at Henderson Brewing.

“Our hope is that people will visit the Brewery District as a launching point knowing that at least one brewery is likely to have an event going every day of the week. Like the Cineplex idea for movies, there is sure to be something for everyone.”

A proposal for the Brewery District will be submitted to City Council by the 13-member committee and Toronto City Councillor Ana Bailão (Ward 18) next month.
