Pizzeria Napoletana

When it comes to authentic Italian pizza from Naples at a bargain, Pizzeria Napoletana is the most notable in its class. In a no frills, almost cafeteria-style venue in the heart of Little Italy lays one of the most famous pizza parlours in the whole city of Montreal. If you don’t know about this spot yet, it’s time for some education.

Their pizza list is not only authentic (thin crust in a wood-burning oven), but they also have 34 different combinations to choose from. Our favourites at Notable are their simple Margherita (mozzarella, tomato sauce you can basically drink, and oregano), Bufala (basil, mozzarella di Bufala imported from Italy, spicy oil and tomato sauce), and their Amalfitana (prosciutto, mozzarella, tomato sauce). You can also make some tasty choices off of their Antipasto menu as well. Our favourite is their Antipasto Napoletana which includes capicollo, salami, anchovies, olives, cheese, artichokes, hearts of palm, capers, and tomatoes. Also don’t miss their pasta – it’s as good as anything else on the menu.

As far as wine goes, we have good news. Pizzeria Napoletana is one of the most notable “Bring Your Own Wine” restaurants in the city (and especially in Little Italy). Show up with your favourite bottle of Chianti (or two) and brace yourself for a delicious and affordable evening.

This is a prime spot to come with a group for a birthday or just some good friends who want to share a bunch of plates and enjoy some laughs. They do no take reservations and you should expect a bit of a wait – especially on a weekend night. They do have a terrace but it’s small, so arrive early to get a seat on it; it’s the most popular real estate in the restaurant. Pizzeria Napoletana, 189 Rue Dante, Montreal.
